Beti Bachao Beti Padhao (BBBP) is an awareness scheme launched on 22nd January, 2015 against the adverse child sex ratio (CSR).

The initiative seeks to address the issue of decline in CSR through a mass campaign across the country and focus intervention and multi sectoral action in gender critical districts of the country. The funds are available with the DC.

The objectives of the scheme are:

• To prevent sex selective elimination

• To ensure survival and protection of the girl child

• To ensure education and participation of the girl child.

Under the scheme, various types of awareness activities are being run in Punjab against the adverse child sex ratio in the State.

Currently, the scheme is being run in 20 districts of Punjab. Pathankot and Fazilka are to be approved for inclusion by Govt. of India. The funds are transferred directly to D.Cs.
