It means placement of a child, by the Child Welfare Committee for the purpose of alternate care in the domestic environment of a family other than the child's biological family and institutional care.
Objective:
• Prevents child destitution & offers holistic child protection.
• To ensure the education of child.
• Supports & supervises financial assistance to families & group foster homes.
• A formal policy document with best practices from across the world is under preparation.
Benefits
1. To provide the family atmosphere to the child.
2. To provide financial assistance of Rs. 2000/- per month for three years or till the age of 18 years, whichever is earlier.
Eligibility for foster family:
Both the spouse must be:-
• Indian citizens.
• Willing to foster the same child.
• Above the age of thirty-five years
• The foster family should have an income with which they are able to meet the needs of the child.
• Medical reports of all the members of the foster family.
